Indiana allows sports betting online through mobile apps and in person at casinos and racinos. It started in September 2019. You have to be at least 21 to bet on sports in Indiana. Betting is overseen by the Indiana Gaming Commission.

How to self-exclude from sports betting in Indiana

Self-exclusion is a ban you place on yourself. Once you're on the list, licensed sportsbooks have to close your accounts and turn you away, even on a night you'd talk yourself into one more bet.

In Indiana, the main option is the Indiana Voluntary Exclusion Program.

  • The Voluntary Exclusion Program covers all Indiana casinos. You choose 1 year, 5 years or lifetime.
  • It's done in person at any Indiana casino, the Gaming Commission office in Indianapolis, or a designated problem gambling treatment provider.
  • You can only ask to be removed after your term ends.
  • For online sportsbooks, Indiana runs a separate Internet Self-Restriction Program. Find it on the Gaming Commission's website.

State lists can take a few days to reach every operator. Cover that window by excluding inside every app you've used, starting with the one you used most.

For a full walkthrough, including the national program and each major app, see how to self-exclude from sports betting.

The games that hit hardest in Indiana

Home teams carry the most money and the most feeling. In Indiana, that's the Indianapolis Colts, Indiana Pacers, Indiana Fever, Indiana Hoosiers and Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Treat their games like a trigger, because they are one, and set your plan the day before instead of at kickoff.

Indianapolis 500 and Brickyard 400 (NASCAR at Indianapolis Motor Speedway) bring boosted odds, office pools and friends asking if you're in. Have your answer ready before the day gets here.

Close the other doors

Self-exclusion works best with a few more walls around it:

  • Install a gambling blocker on every device and lock your phone settings so you can't reinstall apps on impulse. See how to block sports betting apps.
  • Remove saved cards from betting sites, and ask your bank about blocking gambling transactions.
  • If debt is piling up, a nonprofit credit counselor at NFCC.org can help.
