Privacy policy and disclaimer

Last updated: October 24, 2026

Recovery is personal, and so is the information you share with us. This page explains, in plain words, what Unbettable collects, why, who else touches it, and how to get it deleted. Questions? Email [email protected].

The short version

  • We never sell your information, and we never use it for advertising.
  • We don't put advertising trackers (like Facebook or Google ad pixels) on this site or the app.
  • We have no connection to any sportsbook, casino or betting company, and never will.
  • You can download or delete your app data yourself, any time, from the app's settings.

What we collect, and why

The recovery plan questions

The questions run in your browser. Your individual answers aren't sent to us or stored. Only your results (your insight, tips and recommended next step) are saved on your own device so you can come back to them. Retaking the questions replaces them, and clearing your browser data removes them.

To see and keep your plan, you give us your email address. We receive your email, your first name and mobile number if you give them, and whether the plan is for you or a family member. We never receive your answers to the questions. We use this to send your plan and the follow-up emails and texts you agreed to, and you can unsubscribe any time.

Text messages

If you give your mobile number and check the box, we'll text you recovery tips, reminders and offers. Message frequency is shown on the form. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to any message to stop, or HELP for help. Agreeing to texts is never required to buy anything. We never sell or share your number for anyone else's marketing.

Email list, guides and waitlists

If you sign up, we collect your email address and, if you give it, your first name. We use it only to send what you asked for. Every email has an unsubscribe link.

The app

To save anything in the app, you create an account with an email address and password. We don't ask for your real name. If you also check the optional box to get guides by email, we add your email address (and nothing from inside the app) to our email list. The entries you choose to save, like check-ins, urge logs, journal entries, plans, goals and your bet-free date, are stored so you can come back to them. Nobody else can see them unless you create a share code and give it to someone, and you can revoke a code any time.

Plan and check-ins

Your daily check-in answers and plan are worked out on your device. The check-in asks whether you've bet since your last one. That answer, and anything you write in the personal 90-day plan (your answers to its setup questions, your if-then plans, your lockdown checklist and your better list), are used only to tailor your plan. The same goes for the family plan's answers and notes, which the person you're worried about never sees. If you're signed in, they save to your account like your other app entries. If you turn on Trust Builder, whoever has your share code can also see which days you checked in over the last two weeks, and how strong your urges were if you choose to share that. Your mood, sleep, money and betting answers are never shared, and neither is anything in your plan.

Reminders

If you turn on reminders, we save your reminder settings (times, payday schedule and time zone) to your account, plus a delivery address for each phone you turn them on for. Your phone's maker (Apple, Google or Mozilla, depending on your browser) delivers them. The reminder text is encrypted on the way, so they can't read it, and it never mentions betting or gambling. Turn reminders off on a phone any time in the app, or in your phone's settings. Deleting your account deletes all of this.

Things we collect automatically

Like any website, our hosting provider logs basic technical information such as your IP address and browser type to keep the site running and secure. Fonts load from Google Fonts, which receives your IP address. We don't use advertising or tracking cookies.

Who else handles your information

Only the companies that help us run Unbettable, and only for that purpose: Cloudflare (website hosting), Supabase (app accounts and storage), Resend (account and reminder emails), Google Fonts (typefaces), YouTube (only when you tap play on a video in the 90-day plan; videos use YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode) and, if you turn on reminders, your phone's push service from Apple, Google or Mozilla. We may also share information if the law requires it, or if we believe someone's life is in immediate danger.

How Unbettable makes money

Partnerships, referral links and organization licenses keep Unbettable running.

Organization licenses. Schools, teams and employers can pay a yearly fee to offer Unbettable to their people with their own page and help numbers. They get totals only, never anything about a person. See If your school or workplace offers Unbettable.

Partners. Treatment programs, online therapy services and clinicians may pay a flat fee for a listing or sponsorship in Find Help. Paid listings are clearly labeled, they don't change how anything is ranked, and they always sit next to free options. We don't take a fee per person who signs up for treatment.

Referral and affiliate links. Some links to products and services, like savings accounts for the money you used to bet, are referral or affiliate links. If you sign up through one, we may get paid, and it never costs you more. We only link to things we'd point a friend toward, and we say when a link is a referral.

What we won't do. We never take money from sportsbooks, casinos, betting apps or tipsters. We never sell your information or pass it to a program or partner. Contacting a program is always your choice.

When you tap through to a program from Find Help or the app, we count the tap: which program, which page and which day. We don't record who you are. Links to programs also carry a tag that tells the program the visit came from Unbettable. Those counts are how we show programs that Unbettable sends people their way.

If your school or workplace offers Unbettable

Some schools, teams, chapters and employers pay to offer Unbettable to their people. If you join through one (from their page, a link or a code), the app shows "Offered by" their name and puts their help numbers first. You can leave any time in the app's Settings.

To show them that people use it, the app counts a few things: that someone opened the app, checked in, finished a plan day, opened a tool, used the game-day check, visited Find help, tapped the organization's own help number or website, or finished a seasonal refresher. Each is counted at most once a day, with a random code made on your device. That code isn't your account, name or email, and we don't link it to them. Nothing you write, answer or score is ever counted.

If you take the How betting works course after joining, your quiz scores are saved with the organization's code so it can see averages, like the average score before and after. Your individual answers are never shown to them, and the course's self-check never leaves your device.

The course may also ask three optional statements before and after, like whether you know where to get help, and an optional, anonymous five-question survey about betting for your organization. If you answer either, your answers are stored with the organization's code and a random device code, never your name. The organization sees counts only once 10 or more people have answered, and any answer chosen by fewer than 5 people is hidden.

Live sessions. If you answer quiz questions on your phone during a live session, your answers are saved with a random device code for 12 hours so the screen can show how the room answered, then deleted. The organization running it sees only how many people took part.

Your support person and money tools. The name, number or email of a support person you add, and anything you type into the money letters, stay on your device. Check-in messages go from your own phone, so Unbettable never sends or sees them.

The organization only gets totals, on its dashboard or in a term report, and any number under 10 people is hidden. They never see who joined or anything about you. We keep these counts for up to three years, then delete them. If you leave, we stop counting.

If you ask about Unbettable for your organization through our form, we keep your name, work email, organization, role and message so we can reply.

How betting works course and certificates

The course runs in the app. Your progress, your guardrails and your self-check answers stay on your device. When you take the final check, your answers are sent to us to be graded so a certificate can't be faked. If you pass, we keep a certificate code, the course version and the date, linked to a random code made on your device. We don't keep your name: you type it on the copy you print, and anyone you show it to can check the code at unbettable.com/verify.

Consumer health data privacy policy

Some of what you share with us, like your urges, betting history, mood check-ins or the fact that you're working on a gambling problem, can count as "consumer health data" under laws such as Washington's My Health My Data Act. This section explains how we handle it.

  • What we collect: the recovery information you choose to save in the app, your recovery plan results (stored only on your device), and, if you ask us to email your plan, your plan type.
  • Where it comes from: directly from you. We don't buy data or collect it from other sources.
  • Why: only to provide the tools and plan you asked for.
  • Consent: we ask for your consent when you create an app account, or ask us to email your plan. You can withdraw it any time by deleting your account or emailing us.
  • Sharing: only with the service providers listed above, to run the service. We never sell consumer health data.
  • Your rights: you can ask to see what we have, get a copy, or have it deleted. In the app, use Settings, then Your Account. Or email [email protected]. We'll respond within 45 days. If we decline a request, you can appeal by replying to our answer, and we'll respond to the appeal within 45 days.

How long we keep it

  • App data: until you delete it or your account. Deleting your account removes your entries and share codes right away.
  • Email list and text messages: until you unsubscribe or reply STOP.
  • Purchase records: as long as tax and accounting rules require.

Security

Information is sent over encrypted connections, and app data is stored with access rules so each person can only reach their own entries. No system is perfect. If a breach ever affects your information, we'll tell you as the law requires.

Age

Unbettable is for adults 18 and older. If you believe someone under 18 has given us information, email us and we'll delete it.

We're not a healthcare provider

Unbettable provides research-based education and recovery tools. We are not a medical or mental health provider, and our content does not replace professional diagnosis, treatment, counseling, or legal or financial advice. If you or someone you love is in crisis, call or text 988.

Changes

If this policy changes in a meaningful way, we'll update the date at the top and let app users and email subscribers know.
